Add some wild rice might to soups, instead of rice or noodles, in salads, in place of quinoa or barley or as a side dish. Add colour and texture by mixing with other rices, to stuffing and in casseroles. Or add to bakes and seeded breads, as you would oats and seeds.

DYK …? Not technically a rice, wild rice is the seed grain of a wetland grass, Zizania Aquatica, which is cured and roasted to give an even black appearance

Storage & Shelf-Life

Keep uncooked in a cool, dry place in an airtight container for between 3 and 5 years, cooked in the fridge for 3 – 4 days, cooked in the freezer for between 4 – 6 months.

How To Use

Rinse rice. Add one part wild rice to three parts water and a dash of salt in a pan and bring to the boil uncovered. Once boiling, cover and reduce to a simmer for between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how crunchy or tender you like it. Keep watch after 30 minutes: if the seed coating starts to split and the grains roll up, you’re overcooking.
