Can we compete with supermarket prices …?
We only offer quality products, so we can’t compete with the supermarket budget lines, but on supermarket premium and organic ranges we get as close as we can and often beat them.
With pricing so volatile at the moment, we try and price match every few months against various supermarkets. Here’s a few examples taken in Spring ‘23 from Sainsbury’s …

Street Visits
For those who prefer a little sociable, Slow Shopping, book a street visit with Ernie. A lovingly restored 1972 Morrison’s electric milk float, he carries over 150 household, bathroom and pantry essentials from our online shop, ready to refill from gravity and scoop dispensers.
Where there’s a refill, there’s a way …
We continue to work towards making refill shopping as simple and convenient as possible and to addressing all refilling preferences, where possible.
To that end, we are building a monthly diary of fixed repeat locations to plan around, alongside our fluid street visit bookings.

Why?
The People’s Pantry is
about working together towards reduction …
of food miles, emissions, single-use plastics, exploitation,
food waste …
and the hassle for you
Food & drink packaging for the average UK household accounts for 83% of the UK’s plastic waste, with cleaning and toiletries creating a further 7%
In 2019, the UK’s ten biggest supermarkets used nearly 900,000 tonnes of plastic packaging
The average UK household throws away 66 items of plastic week every week, amounting to an estimated 3,432 pieces a year
Only 12% of this plastic waste is likely to be recycled in UK reprocessing facilities
Globally, the UK is second only to the US in our annual plastic waste production
Data supplied by Greenpeace and Everyday Plastic based on 97,948 participating households surveyed

The People’s Pantry is just us,

The People’s Pantry is just us,
Thomo and Lisa: a husband and wife team who have lived in Muswell Hill for over twenty years with our four children. It brings together the disparate skills of a technology consultant and a Food & Drink PR and journalist; and is founded on a strong sense of community, a love of good food and a determination to be part of the change. We can’t hope to be zero-waste perfect, but the more of us that are working imperfectly at it, the closer it gets.

Talk to us ...
We love to hear from The People’s Pantry community. Talk to us, leave a review, tell us how we can improve the service and what you’d like to see in the shop. If it’s feasible, ethical, sustainable (and legal), we’ll do it.
